Between the Miles - Latest Film - 09/05/11
I have not done a great job of posting the latest news on my film projects. Please forgive me. This past month, my film Between the Miles has picked up speed. We have applied for the first of many film grants. We will soon publish our website to better share news of our progress as Producer Emily Beach and I focus on getting this film made in 2012.

New Roads School - Film Program - 3/09/10
I've been teaching film production and theory at New Roads School for the past few years. It's an incredible place to work! New Roads School puts out a "note," highlighting note-worthy events or people each month. This month they featured my film program! Yay! Hopefully, this will encourage us to continue expanding the program and help incorporate film into other general ed classes as a "language."

BTM Update - 1/22/10
Between the Miles is currently "in-development." I recently teamed up with a producer named Emily Beach. I am so excited to be working with her. Together, we're hoping to reach out to talent and get BTM on the road to production.
Between the Miles Logline:
After taking three homeless students off LA's mean streets and into her care, a young music teacher must overcome her reckless tendencies when she is evicted, and forced to survive.

Hired Writer - 12/13/09
With a January 31st deadline, I've been working under the gun as a hired writer. It's been a wonderful challenge and a fun opportunity to put my writing skills to use! For the past few weeks, I have been writing daily (6am-12pm). There are some days where I can write more than 3 pages (several pages end up getting deleted) and other days where I can't write anything for the life of me. I'm learning a lot about myself. For example, when I'm stuck on a scene or not sure what my characters would say...I find myself creating excuses to pop in dvds for "inspiration." I also find myself saying things like, "Go ahead, Michelle. Jump on youtube and see what you can find." or "Log on to Facebook and read status updates. It's a great source of inspiration for realistic dialogue."
No more youtubing kittens and facebooking strangers!
This next month is going to be an intense one. Gotta crack the whip. Forgive me if I disappear from civilization. Hopefully, I'll return with some great writing lessons and a finished script.

Live Arts Group - 11/14/09
I am currently working for a non-profit group called Live Arts Group. We are in the midst of completing an 8 week program in East L.A. It's been a blast. The kids are great and the videos are going to be amazing. For those of you who do not know about Live Arts Group...Live Arts Group is a non-profit organization created to bring free arts enrichment back to youth in underserved neighborhoods, with a special focus on At-Risk, Foster, LGBT, and Homeless youth. I've been involved with the group for the past two years. During the FREE 8-week "Pass It On" Music Video Workshop, participants are taught on professional equipment and under the mentorship of accredited filmmakers. They are given the opportunity to explore the exciting crafts involved in creating music videos while learning the specialized skills needed to pursue a career in the film industry.
On December 10th, they will be holding a benefit concert at the Troubadour (9081 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA). Alanis Morissette, Greg Laswell, Miss Willie Brown will all be performing. Proceeds will benefit Live Arts Group. To purchase tickets please visit:

Website Launch - 8/17/09
Finally, I have a website! Here, you can find my reel and updates. Perhaps my updates will be weekly, monthly, or yearly. I do not know. All I know, is that I hope to do my very best to keep this site maintained on a routine basis. This will also be a great way to focus on "putting myself out there." It'll be a great way to share my work and the projects I am currently working on.
I have also decided to start a blog. Arggh! Something, I thought I would never do in a million years. I will be reviewing films (Yes, me too), some of which I love and some of which tamper with my well being and make my blood boil. However, the main purpose of the blog will be for me to "digress" on filmmaking ideas/theories/themes/techniques. For those of you who do not know, I teach film to youth across Los Angeles. As the school year approaches, I hope to somehow get my students to read my banter and encourage them to ponder and discuss these ideas a bit more. By sharing these thoughts, I am hoping my students will get a better idea of what types of films and stories they like and what type of filmmaker they aspire to be. It's also a great opportunity for me to strengthen my own ideas while sharing my two cents. Enjoy!
